The South Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center
The mission of the South Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center is to provide a safe, nonthreatening place for child victims and their families to receive a comprehensive array of services which include the initial interview, court school education, and referral for therapy and medical services.
What's is a Children's Advocacy Center?
A Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) is a child-focused, facility based program in which representatives from many disciplines meet to discuss and make decisions about investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. The goal is to ensure that children are not revictimized by the very systerm designed to protect them. They also work to prevent further victimation of children.
Core Components of a Children's Advocacy Center:
- Separate, child-friendly facilities for interviewing and providing services to child victims and their non-offending family members.
- Specially trained professionals.
- Coordinated multidisclipinary case reviews on a regular basis.
- Intensive case follow-up.
