Inspiring Futures Mentoring Program

 Who can be a Mentor?

Are you:

  • A good friend?
  • A good listener?
  • Willing to spend at least 4 hours per month for a minimum of one year; sharing your time changing a child's life?
  • In possession of a valid driver's license?
  • A car owner or have access to one with proper vehicle insurance?
  • A social security card or passport?

 

 

 Who can be a Mentee?

Are you:

  • 4-18 years old?
  • Do you reside in Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Forrest, or Lamar Counties?
  • Are one or both of your parents/caregiver incarcerated under Federal or State jurisdiction?
  • Will you commit to one year of mentoring?
 

 FACTS:

A seminal study found that kids with Mentors are:

  • 53% less likely to skip school
  • 46% less likely to start using drugs
  • 32% less likely to get in physical fights
  • 27% less likely to start drinking

Typical growth in children with Mentors:

  • Positive Youth Development
  • Improved self-esteem and confidence
  • Improved relationships with parents and peers
